Gargling the red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) decoction can affect the saliva flow rate like both mechanical and chemical stimulus. Several cases of oral cavity as a consequence of saliva flow rate change are drying mouth off and making it susceptible to caries. The aim of this research is to observe the change of saliva flow rate before and after gargling the mouth with a red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) decoction. This research took its place on Dentistry Departement of Syiah Kuala University with thirty seven (37) 2016’s students as a subject. The list of saliva accumulations are: before stimulus, after gargling with mineral water, and after gargling with red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) decoction using spitting method. The result of paired T test revealed a significant change of saliva flow rate before and after gargling with mineral water, before and after gargling the red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) decoction, and after gargling mineral water and the red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) decoction is p 0.05. According to the result of this research, it can be concluded that the red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) decoction can enhance the change of saliva flow rate and possible to prevent oral cavity disruption. Keywords : Saliva flow rate, Mechanical stimulus, Chemical stimulus, Red ginger (Zingiber officinal var.
