The Principal's Managerial Competence in Improving School Performance in Pidie Jaya Regency

Managerial competence is the ability to manage resources through planning, organizing, and monitoring to achieve organizational goals effectively and efficiently. The purpose of this study is to determine the principal's managerial competence in preparing the planning, implementation, and managing the school members to improve school performance. The research was conducted in the reputable State Junior High School (SMPN) in Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, Indonesia that includes SMPN Unggul Pidie Jaya, SMPN 1 Bandar Baru, SMPN 1 Bandar Dua, and SMPN. 1 Meureudu, with the using descriptive method and qualitative approach. The data were collected through observation, interview, and documentary study. Subjects were principals, vice-principals, and teachers. The results showed that: (1) Managerial Competence of, principals' planning is based on the principals' ability to formulate vision and mission and design of school work, especially the field of curriculum, student affairs, personnel, education facilities, administration of the school, finances, organizing school and school relationships with the community is still not maximized. (2) The managerial competence of principals to exert leadership in maximizing resources requires a system of coordination, communication and procedures. (3) The realization of the managerial competency of the principals is indicated through the ability of the principals to collaborate, create a good and innovated clime and culture, human resource activities, students' outcomes and technology use.
