Synthesis of Magnetic Inorganic-Catalyst Prepared from Aceh's Bovine Bone Waste by Mechanochemical Method

In order to employ bovine bone biomass which abundantly found in Aceh province, this research was focused on the combination of a natural hydroxyapatite (NHAp) and a natural hematite, (alpha-Fe2O3) through a mechanochemical method. Characterization process showed that the calcined bone consisted of CaO, MgO, Na2O, phospor and hydroxyapatite compound. Further modification of the calcined- bone with addition of 5 % (wt/wt) of natural hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) by mechanochemical method produced an inorganic composite that has crystalline phase and showed catalytic activity for trans-esterification reaction of castor oil to produce bio-diesel.
